Proper test prep starts with a diagnostic exam that covers all the topics that students face on the real ACT test. The primary areas of focus for ACT prep are reading comprehension, writing and editing skills, scientific data analysis, and mathematics through trigonometry. 

Preparing for the ACT

The concepts below are only a high-level overview of the topics covered during instruction.   • Mathematics

    In order to do well on the ACT Math Test, students must be proficient in:

  • Science

    The ACT Science Test assesses interpretation of data, explores scientific investigations, and looks at models and results.

    • Evaluating scientific models, using inference, and drawing conclusions from experimental results
  • Reading

    The ACT Reading Test assesses key ideas and details, craft and structure, and integration of knowledge and ideas.


    In order to do well on the Reading Test of the ACT test, students must be proficient in:


    • Active Reading
    • Analyzing Paird Passages
    • Examining Literary Narrative of Prose Passages
    • Reading passages covering content in science, humanities, and other fields
    • Anticipating answers
    • Eliminating false choices
    • Understanding main ideas, inference and fact-based questions
  • English

    In order to do well on the English Test of the ACT test, students must be comfortable with:


    • Main Idea questions
    • Author's Intent
    • Organization of prose
    • Additions, Deletions in passages
    • Transitions
    • Style
    • Verbosity
  • Essay (Optional)

    The Optional ACT Essay Test is scored from 2-12 over four key domains:


    • Ideas and Analysis
    • Development and Support
    • Organization
    • Language Use and Conventions
    • The Essay Test is 40 minutes long.
